That is so funny with Iggy 🐶! Our dog is the same - he barks his head off until he gets his daily homemade kefir shot 🤣. Must try your granola recipe.

That’s such a co-incidence 🤣. Hope you enjoy the granola.

I love the idea for this series since breakfast is my toughest meal of the day. Is there a good sub for Quark? Where I live in the US, I've not seen it in the stores, but have access to a good yogurt and a probiotic cottage cheese, which I can eat in very small amounts due to histamine (tyramine?) intolerance. Before these reactions started, my go-to in the mornings was a good quality granola, blueberries and homemade yogurt, or a chia pudding.

Hi Jane, yes for protein Greek yogurt or cottage cheese are options. Maybe a cup of anti-histamine nettle tea in the mornings might help improve histamine tolerance?

Thanks. I'll try that. I have been reacting to some teas (and coffee, too!) so I'm looking for a hot beverage that will work. I'll order nettles now......

It tastes pretty ok - don’t be put off by the pond colour!

That's funny. Maybe I can add honey or something else to make it palatable. Thanks.

Mary again. Hit sent too soon. Also after the overnight oats I had 2 Brazil nuts and a slice of sourdough toast with a bit of butter and some marmalade. Can’t resist a slice of toast in the morning. Probably shouldn’t but I love it.

Brazil nuts are great for selenium - a mineral which helps the thyroid and hence our metabolism work well. And as for marmalade - best way to have a sugary jam, as the fibrous skins slow down the sugar hit and feed the biome.

I'm guessing Iggy's owners normally prepare his meals meals on the counter😂 He really wanted your breakfast and I can't say I blame him, looked delicious!

I used to get kefir maker with oat milk, not sure if the benefits are as good? Unfortunately can't get it anymore so will have to see if I can make it.

Good observation re the counter! Definitely worth trying to make your own kefir long term to save money and know it's authentic...I've made with coconut milk successfully in the past for a plant version. Also am making/drinking kefir water at the moment which I water down with fizzy water to drink (so not such a sugar hit). Another way to get probiotics if avoiding dairy.

Oh that's great to know, thanks, I will look into both options

I keep meaning to try Quark, thank you for the reminder. Today I had overnight oats, chia, pumpkin seeds, poppy seeds, cinnamon, frozen cherries with my homemade almond milk, ready to heat up in the morning and topped with yogurt and peanuts. Keeps me full all morning! I tend to have a variation of this on week days and savoury breakfast at the weekend.

That sounds delicious and full of filling fibre and variety for thge biome. Also, soaking makes it easier to digest. Re quark - good way to get a dollop of high protein in, without a load of fat!

This is fun! 😂 Mine today was Biotiful Kefir Yogurt (I started this a few months ago - is it one of your recommendations), Frozen berries, a few fresh strawberries and blueberries, a spoon of your granola plus a spoon of shelled hemp seeds, chia seeds and flaxseed. Keeps me going until mid afternoon 😊

Hi Emma. Love it! Re kefir. Biotiful is easy to get hold of...but maybe next step would be DIY? Would save money and plastic...I know it's another task, but honestly takes a couple of minutes to make once you have the grains, some organic milk, and recycle a passata bottle.

I recognised the recycled passata bottle in your photo, I use them too 😊

My breakfast this morning was a slice of your ‘breakfast bread’ (which I have been making for years) warmed, with 130 mls of home-made kefir, some pumpkin seeds and pear slices. I add blueberries to your basic recipe and sometimes a tablespoon of Cacao powder depending on how sloppy the mixture feels. I freeze the slices so that I am never without a go-to breakfast and also use the mixture to make muffins to take out as a snack. 🙏🏻

Wow. Thank you for sharing Hilary. Wonderful! Loving the cacao inclusion for some extra polyphenols there too!

I'm interested Jeannette. I've had an oats-based breakfast for years and now trying to incorporate more protein, so I'd value your ideas
