A big bleary-eyed early hello from London this morning!
I don’t know about you, but breakfast can be a bit of a challenge, trying to get enough protein, fibre, fermented food, and variety each day for gut-health, blood sugar levels, satiety…the list goes on…
So I was thinking, would it be useful for me to share with you what goes on in my kitchen in the mornings?
Breakfast is for many of us a third of our day’s nutrition, and it can be hard to catch up later in the day, if we don’t have a decent start to the day.
But I don’t always get it right, and arrive in the kitchen to find my son (who’s home right now) has finished all the eggs the night before, or next door’s dog has been given the last swirl of kefir.
So this morning I did a quick rough-and-ready video for you of what goes through my head when preparing breakfast and the kind of things I throw together.
Today was kefir, frozen blackberries, granola, quark, plus later I added a bit of raw prebiotic gut-friendly honey as the berries were a bit tart.
My question is. Is this useful?
I’m thinking of doing a little 3-minute (maximum) video like this over the next 3 days consecutively for you.
Might even do it live on Substack (gulp!), which means you will get a notification of it on your phone when it starts, and a copy of the video in your inbox afterwards to watch when more convenient if you prefer that way. I’m hoping you’ll be able to add comments and suggestions too so we can all learn from each other.

Apologies about next door’s lovely dog Iggy who is staying with us at the mo and his enthusiastic barking at the bottle. *He is a kefir-oholic and going mad for it as you’ll see.
My breakfasts are usually different every day (the microbiome, and me, love variety!) so hopefully this won’t get boring.
And I’ll even share when it all goes wrong (as it does inevitably) and what I do about it .

This is fun! 😂 Mine today was Biotiful Kefir Yogurt (I started this a few months ago - is it one of your recommendations), Frozen berries, a few fresh strawberries and blueberries, a spoon of your granola plus a spoon of shelled hemp seeds, chia seeds and flaxseed. Keeps me going until mid afternoon 😊
That is so funny with Iggy 🐶! Our dog is the same - he barks his head off until he gets his daily homemade kefir shot 🤣. Must try your granola recipe.
