I was recently asked by The Daily Telegraph to give my opinion of San Pellegrino “natural” limonata and I told them I wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole.
Just because it has a picture of a 🍋 lemon on the front, does not mean it’s healthy!
That conversation reminded me that often we need a bunch of go-to non-alcoholic drinks this time of year which aren’t loaded with sugar and artificial sweeteners and can do our gut-health some good.
Let’s have a chat today about options.
If there is a drink you rate, bring it along and we can talk about it.
I’ll be bringing some iced hibiscus tea with sparkling water. This is my absolute favourite this time of year (even on a grey day like today in London!), and it’s easy and inexpensive to make.
I like the tart taste, and that it is full of polyphenols in the colour to feed good bacteria in the gut.
Other options I’ll mention are water kefir, and kombucha - widely available nowadays to buy, though quality and residual sugar loads can be variable! I’ll also give a shout out to my new pet gut-health drink 🍍 tepache.
