Prebiotic almond orange 🍊cake - dairy free, gluten free, AND delicious
Includes appetite-curbing chickpea flour, and an entire orange to keep your microbiome and your taste buds happy. Plus details of this month's Zoom meet-up together
Before I get going with this week’s cake recipe I want to let you know that I’ll be writing more microbiome-nourishing recipes over the next few weeks. I’m aiming to build a capsule wardrobe of gut-health delicious and easy recipes for you. You know - like carefully-chosen clothes representing the essentials to meet all occasions. They will all be kept in one easy-to-find place here.
I can see from the statistics of posts over the last few months that you are finding these really useful - so I’m going to assign more time to develop them using specific ingredients that have been shown in research to feed the good bacteria in our guts and keep us healthy, full, and energised.
Many will also be Zoe compliant - as I know some of you have done the app, and told me you need support and plenty of food ideas to keep healthy after completing it.
Anyway, here goes with my easy cake recipe that every household needs. It is also gluten free, milk-product free, and freezes well (so you can whip it out a couple of hours before someone coming round). You can also dress it up for a birthday - put a few edible flowers on top or grate some zest and put candles on if needed.
And best of all, you know you are doing your gut good in the process and you CAN stop after one piece (give it a try!) - as it includes chickpea flour that has been shown to raise your GLP-1 gut hormone (the one that makes you feel full). Yes, that’s the one that weight loss drug Ozempic raises.
Here’s the recipe, and a full explanation of what good all the ingredients are doing you and your gut.
